Kansas Turfgrass Founders Society

The Kansas Turfgrass Foundation Founders Society was established in 1990 to provide support for research and education in turfgrass science. Several faculty members at K-State conduct research to help solve problems in turfgrass culture in Kansas. Joining the Founders Society is another way your organization can support the goals of the KTF.
Any lawn care company, golf course, parks department, sports complex, or association that benefits from turfgrass research should consider becoming a KTF Founder. Membership is accomplished by a one-time donation of $ 1,000 (payable at once or in installments) to the KTF Founders’ Investment Account. Golf courses and others that work off an annual operating budget may want to include KTF Founders membership in the upcoming year. Interest accrued will be used to complement annual research contributions.
Complete the KTF Founders Society application and join the turfgrass research team working to improve turfgrass quality in Kansas!

Loren Breedlove of the Kansas City Country Club has written a letter copied below to all persons interested in Turfgrass Research that explains why it is important to become a member of the Founder's Society.

TO: All Persons Interested in Turfgrass Research

I write this letter to encourage those involved in all facets of the turf industry to join us as members of the Kansas Turfgrass Foundation's Founder's Society. Funds accumulated through the Founder's Society will be used to help expand turfgrass research in the state. Golf course superintendents, lawn care operators, athletic field managers, sod producers, and others all benefit from the research conducted by K-State researchers and supported by the KTF.

As the game of golf has become more popular, superior playing conditions are now increasingly expected. Golfers and non-golfers alike, are more interested in how golf affects the environment, land resources, and wildlife habitats. Regional and local studies help provide answers to important questions in these areas. Consider including membership to the Founder's society in next year's budget.

Lawn care operators benefit from KTF research with guidance provided on best-performing turf species and cultivars, selection of appropriate and effective pesticides, and approaches to reduce pesticide inputs. Monies to contribute to the Founder's Society can be raised by charging a few extra cents per mow, application, or renovation.

K-State researchers continue to evaluate best management practices for athletic field managers and sod producers as well. These projects will be expanded with as the breadth of the research programs expands. Whether managing sports turfs or growing sod, consider a KTF Founders Society contribution to help expand work in these areas.

Although turf research was once conducted only on the main campus at K-State, active projects are now underway at the Rocky Ford Turf Research Center in Manhattan, the John Pair Horticultural Center in Wichita, and the new K-State Research and Extension Center in Olathe. These facilities are operated by talented state research, teaching, and cooperative extension teams. All of the faculty are accessible to turf managers throughout the state.

With reductions in state budgets, contributions to the KTF Founders society are more important now than ever before. Please help continue to strengthen our research programs throughout the state by joining the Founders Society today.
